Welcome to our exciting learning adventure! My name is Christy Karnatz, but you can call me Mrs.Karnatz (like a car with gnats hitting the windshield).
I spent my childhood in Livonia, Michigan, enjoying nature and reading until my
parents turned out the lights. I now live in Riverside with my husband Mike, our fierce, entertaining cat, Cosmo, and our newly adopted, bossy, but sweet cat, Bootsie.
In my spare time, I love to read, spend time watching sports with my husband, travel, help people build things, sing, and take thousands of pictures of nature and the people around me.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of the Arts in English with a concentration in Writing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After realizing that teaching was where my true passion and gifts lay, I completed a teacher preparation program at DePaul University.
I’ve spent my time since then studying methods to enhance Balanced Literacy and make it my mission to be the example of lifelong learning that I encourage in my students. I look forward to continuing my education throughout my teaching career.
